After 250 km on a good national road and a 5h drive, including a stop at MAN Trucks to fix a fender and have lunch, we are greeted at the entrance of the third city of Turkey by police patrols (that do not stop us): probably because of the political rally we heard about in the news. A few kilometers further, we arrive at a huge car park in the southwest of the city, close to a pier and a large park and have no qualms about taking three in one go. Some caravans and motorhomes keep us company: some seem to be there for the winter, others in transit, or more or less inhabited during the year.
Many dogs sleep between vehicles. Some are tattooed, with or without a collar, others without anything: the « rules » at this level are not clear to us, and we have not yet taken the time to question them more deeply.
The plan for the next few days: have Edrian’s dental resin checked and start the evolutionary work on Arty’s bodywork. Loïc is in touch with Nconen, street artist (inter alia), known in Izmir, and who seems interested to help us in our project. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
The next morning, while waiting for news, we enjoy the park and the waterfront, like many local families. The parking is full and the area is lively, all under a beautiful sun.
Nconen arrives at the beginning of the afternoon. We get to know each other, a little coffee and hop hop, he pulls out all his artist’s paraphernalia and starts to work. We, who did not know what to expect (would he just come to take a look, would he like the ‘canvas’, would it be affordable?), we can barely believe it and of course super happy, especially Loïc whose idea it was!
3 hours later, done! The driver’s door is now decorated with the symbol of Izmir Saat Kulesi (clock tower) on a beautiful blue background. Souvenir photos, many thanks, and the artist leaves us for other creations and projects. Goal #1 achieved!
After having met with the occupants of one of the caravans who lent us their transport card, we end the day with a visit of the center of town which will be limited to Konak and the main square with the famous clock in life size. We are even treated to a small traditional Ottoman puppet show in the street, quite rare apparently!

Loic
