27/12 au 29/12/18 – Edirne

First crossing of the border during daytime, we’re doing good. The truck seems to attract more attention than in previous countries. If the landscape is not that great until we reach our destination, Edirne (not quite a border town) surprises us by its size and its dynamism. We receive a very friendly welcome in the busy parking lot, right next to the mosque, and we quickly understand why: the site is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

After a refill of water, small walk in the city center, very lively at this time: fruits merchants, vegetables, fish and other dried fruits, a sled with its reins (no kidding!)… However, few local kebab shops to satisfy our stomachs (we must have not taken the right street), so we go back to the mosque where we find our happiness, before returning home with our bellies full.

Waking up to the call of the Muezzine from the top of his minaret at 7am, we’ll have to get used to it!

The city comes alive gradually, today is Friday and the parking will stay constantly full all day. On the agenda for us: phone repair, purchase of a local SIM, and hammam for everyone!

In the evening, we meet and talk with the very nice waiter from one of the nearby cafes, within the limits of his English and our Turkish.

Bye bye Edirne, tomorrow, departure for Istanbul!
